Frequently Asked Questions: Newborn
Q. When is the best time to book our newborn session?
A. I recommend booking your newborn session towards the end of the first trimester or in the very beginning of the second trimester. Newborn sessions are booked based on due date. Two slots are available each month to ensure I have to proper amount of time to plan for each and I can spend more time with each individual client.
Q. When do you recommend photographing newborns?
A. It is best to photograph newborns between 4-12 days old, however, it is not uncommon to have a successful newborn session past 12 days. It’s ideal to photograph baby 1-2 days after moms milk comes in (if planning to nurse your little one). I have noticed with sessions when moms milk has just came in, baby wants to nurse more frequently throughout the newborn session.
With little boys, I recommend closer to the 5th or 6th day, especially if you plan to circumcise your newborn. Although I handle each baby with caution, some poses may cause discomfort to a newly circumcised baby.
Q. What all is included in our session fee?
A. The session fee formally books your portrait session and covers the pre-consultation in person or by phone, your portrait session, post-session processing and preparation of your images and a custom viewing & ordering appointment. Session fees do not include digital photographs or products. For a full list of the client Art Pricing Menu, please contact us! You may also visit Session Fees for more details.
Q. Where do you photograph your newborn sessions?
A. I offer two different type of newborn sessions, stylize which is photographed in my in-home studio and lifestyle which is photographed in my clients home. I currently work out of my home, but I love that I can open up my home to my clients and welcome them like family.
Q. How many sessions do you book a month?
A. I open my studio to two newborn sessions a month and 1-2 first birthday, cake smash sessions. I love that I get to spend quality time with each client and answer any questions they may have. From the initial client contact and past product delivery, I stay in touch with my clients to make sure they have no further questions.
I specialize in weddings as well as newborn portraiture. I reserve one weekend a month for weddings.
Q. Are you up to date on immunizations?
A. Yes! I take my health and clients safety seriously. One way to ensure that is by staying up to date on my immunizations and newborn safety training.
Q. Do you share sneak peeks of your sessions?
A. I do! You can follow me on Facebook at Facebook.com/whitneyaphotography to see sneak peeks posted from sessions. I like to share one per sessions. On of my favorite parts of the experience that I offer my clients is revealing the session. This may seem a little silly, but this process holds so much emotion, suspense, and excitement for both of us! Showing too many sneak peeks lessens that experience.
Q. Do you photograph family sessions?
A. Once a year, typically during the fall season, I offer mini family sessions to my clients that I’ve photographed throughout the year. This allows me to focus and hone in on what I specialize in, newborn, milestone, and first birthdays. I love that I can give that extra perk to my clients though and enjoy watching the sweet family grow. If you are looking to book a family session I would be more than happy to recommend some amazing photographers who specialize in family portraiture.
