In the small town of Millbook, Alabama on Jackson Lake Island houses the set “Town of Spectre” from the film Big Fish by Tim Burton. It also houses endless photography possibilities for Senior, family, and Big Fish engagement session, such as the one pictured below. While visiting my sister last summer I had the absolute honor of using the location for our very own Big Fish engagement session with this beautiful couple. Months after our engagement session together, I got to photograph their wedding at the gorgeous, rustic, location of (stay tuned! I’ll blog that at a later time). For now, check out this super cute couple! *insert ALL the heart eyes!*
As I wrap up the last few sessions here in Louisiana and get ready to transition to Prattville, Alabama; there’s one thing that I am certain of.. Intimate lifestyle newborn sessions have my heart and soul! Rather it take place in the hospital or in the home of my clients… I can not stop smiling before, during, or after these sessions! This particular session was filled full of first, first bath, first outfit, first meetings. Mr. J has three older siblings, a set of twin 4 year old brothers, and a nearly 2 year old brother! I enjoyed watching them meet their baby brother and show him what he’s in store for! <3
I am so excited to see where our newest adventure takes us! I’ve done a little research on birthing centers and L&D Hospitals in the surrounding area and can’t wait to meet the staff! I’ll attach a few of them I’ve found that seem pretty amazing! <3
Fun fact- back in 2014, my twin sister had her son at Baptist East there in Montgomery, Alabama! This was not only my first Hello baby Fresh 48 session, but Hunter was also my first newborn session as well! <3 From there the love of these sessions grew and pushed me to hone in on this genre of photography.

Intimate Louisiana Wedding
So, your best friend just proposed and you are completely over the moon! Oh my gosh! You get to marry your best friend!!! You start thinking of your perfect day (if you haven’t been planning this since you were 5) and the bajillion things that consist of planning a wedding. It can be so overwhelming at first, but hey! You’ve got some time! I’m sure one of the very first questions that popped into your head was “BIG wedding, small wedding, or intimate wedding”. You’ve got hundreds and thousands of options! This being your very first major milestone as a couple, you want to be sure to capture e v e r y t h i n g. This milestone produces those amazing heirloom photographs and albums that you get to pass down generations, to your children, their children, and so on.
I’m going to try to keep this short and sweet while giving you some pointers on planning that perfect day. Also, I wanted to share this super duper cute intimate Louisiana wedding that I got to photograph in DeRidder. Which by the way was a courthouse wedding! (You’d never know that judging by the photographs though.) The point of this blog is to point out a few very important aspects of planning your wedding day. Things that can easily get overlooked when planning and budgeting for your special day. One of the major questions asked is: What do you get to keep from this special day? I’ll let you think about that before I blurt out the answer.
Isn’t this intimate Louisiana wedding super cute!? I photographed this gorgeous wedding in downtown DeRidder at Serenity Park.
OK! Times up! The answers are….. Your wedding dress, your top tier of your cake, your memories, and… ding ding ding… Your photographs!!! With all the chaos that goes into planning a wedding, often times the photographer, or videographer, are overlooked in the equation. Being a wedding photographer, I follow a lot of wedding photographer groups. Some of the scariest things that I’ve seen, read, or heard about was the photographs (one of the few things you get to keep from that day) were lost, never given to the clients, or they were too blurry or not in focus- things that lack the quality to print. You guys.. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. There are no re-shoots of this special day. So, when planning your special day I want you to remember this when searching for a photographer for your wedding day.
1. Do you love their images? Do they match your style? Will you actually be proud to hang those bad boys up on the wall displayed for the world to see?
Remember. Quality over Quantity- I’d rather have 100 perfect photographs than 1000 photographs with only a handful of usable photos.
2. Do you mesh well with the photographer? Are they someone you want following you around for an entire day capturing your most precious memories?
3. Are they within your budget?
When searching for a photographer and you’re typing up that typical “In search of wedding photographer” post. Keep in mind that an arm and a leg or breaking the bank is a massive shot in the dark. A lot of photographers steer clear of those post. I am guilty in some cases as well, but only because when you read that most people read “cheap” instead. Which could totally be the opposite of what you’re meaning in your post. In other words, I may value my arm and my leg a little more than the next Joe. Maybe add a few specifics in your ISO post to weed out a few photographers. Don’t be scared to ask for a wedding portfolio, after all this is your big day and you want everything to be perfect!
4. Finally, are they available on your wedding day?
This is, for obvious reasons, super important. Many photographers book far in advance for the upcoming wedding season. Being around a military town and with hundreds of military affiliated photographers, that is such an important question to ask. We can move at the drop of a hat and sometimes without an extended notice. Now, before you get freaked out, any professional photographer has stipulations and clauses in their wedding contract about having to cancel the obligation due to any unforeseen circumstance and how they’d move forward.
Closing out this blog post, I wanted to leave you with a few suggested gorgeous wedding venues in the area. (SWLA)
